If you’ve recently been diagnosed with a hypermobility spectrum disorder or Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), it’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed — especially when it comes to exercise. You may have been told that movement and strength training are important for your long-term health, but without the right guidance, knowing where to start can be confusing and even scary. Maybe you’ve tried to be active in the past, but ended up feeling worse, not better. We understand how frustrating that can be. At Pathways, we’ve worked with many people in your position — and we know that living with hypermobility is not just about “stretching less” or “strengthening more.” It’s about learning how your body works, how to move with confidence, and how to build strength in a way that feels safe, supported and sustainable.
Our Exercise Physiologist, Kirsty Allen, has experience in working with hypermobility and EDS — and we’re here to guide you at every step. We take the time to get to know your history, your goals, and how your body responds to movement. Together, we’ll create a tailored program designed to gradually improve your strength, stability and confidence, without flaring up your symptoms. That might mean starting with gentle activation and motor control work, then progressing at a pace that works for you. We’ll always listen to your feedback and adjust accordingly — because we know that no two people with hypermobility are the same. Whether your goal is to feel stronger day-to-day, get back into exercise, or manage fatigue and pain more effectively, we’ll work with you to make it possible.
We work with a wide range of people living with hypermobility — from those newly diagnosed with hEDS or HSD, to dancers, athletes, and everyday people who’ve always felt “extra bendy” but never knew why. Many of our clients come to us because they’ve been told to exercise, but every time they try, they end up sore, injured, or exhausted. Others are recovering from repeated joint dislocations or surgeries and need a supportive approach to rebuilding strength. Some are young people who are no longer able to keep up with their peers in sport or school. Whatever your background, we meet you where you are, and help you build a more positive relationship with your body — through safe, tailored exercise and ongoing support.
